MISSION
RESCUE
I think it is fair to say that we had an amazing, but busy time at
Mission Rescue. We had between 27 and 30 children most days –
not as many as previous years (possibly because of Holiday Clubs being
held at other churches the same week) but very definitely a manageable
number. The children were very well behaved and their enthusiasm for
things was quite catching!
Each
day we began by listening to the rules of the club and then by singing
one of the very catchy children’s songs. Then Agents X &
Y (because everyone at the Holiday Club were secret agents) tried
to introduce the theme of the day, but Agent Y always managed to get
things wrong (he thought Going Undercover was hiding in his sleeping
bag!) This part was very well played by Nigel Bunce. After X &
Y had done their bit, we had a Spy Workout which was a time of exercises
led by Jumping Jen otherwise known as Jennifer Maratos. How she kept
going all week, we don’t know but quite a few of us couldn’t
keep up with her!
We then gave the children some clues for the day and continued with
an episode from the D.V.D.
Following
this we had the usual Refreshments and Games and then came back in
for a session called Undercover which is the teaching part of the
morning. Each day dealt with a different part of the story and the
younger children had a sheet with pictures and things to do on it
and the older children had a book to follow which had the Bible Readings
and questions and puzzles, all to do with the story, in it.
The highlight of the morning was the play called ‘Who is the
Mole?’. This was about a group of secret agents who were trying
to find the papers to do with Operation Moses and which had been lost.
They got up to all kinds of things and some of these things were actually
in the script, but a lot weren’t! The children loved the play,
especially the bits which went wrong, so whilst those acting in the
play worried about doing things wrong, the children found it very
funny!
Each day we had a craft – some which we thought would be easy,
were found to be hard, so that it ended up with the adults making
whatever it was and the children taking it home and some children
just gave up (this was usually the boys!). Others, which we thought
might be a little harder, the children did extremely well and were
very pleased with them.
All in all, we had a great week, made all the easier because of the
help which we had from members of AURC both at Woodlands and Trinity
Hale and I would like to thank them all for this. I would also like
to thank Brian for coming along and joining in with the children.
