Women’s Guild Secretary: Jean McLean

An only child, I was born and brought up in a little Staffordshire village called Oakamoor, where we lived until 1935, when we moved to Stafford. We were members of the Congregational Church at this time. I met my husband, Duncan, through friends, and we married in 1944. Our first son was born in 1947: two years after his birth we moved up to Edinburgh, where our two younger sons were born, in 1952 and 1955, respectively. In 1957 my husband’s work took us south, and we moved to Hale Barns. Here we joined Trinity Bowdon, becoming members around 1959-1960. I served as an Elder for 14 years; attended the first Women’s Guild Meeting about 1959; I have been the Secretary for the past thirty years. Music was always an important part of our lives, and over the years we attended concerts, Summer School and Operas all over the country. My husband died in 1998, but my family has continued to be a constant source of pleasure, comfort and support to me.
