Luncheon Circle

The Luncheon Circle meets on a Friday at noon in the Church Coffee Lounge and provides a hot meal and company to approximately forty older people both from the church and in the wider community.

LUNCHEON CIRCLE CELEBRATES

The Luncheon Circle came into being on the 17th April 1986, so we are celebrating our 20th Anniversary this year.
The Circle was formed to give a service to the general public, as well as to our Church members, and there are so many elderly people, as well as those living on their own, who benefit from this service. We make a small charge of £2.50 per meal, and for this our diners receive a hot main course, a pudding, and a drink and, perhaps most important of all, convivial company.
We still have many of our original helpers, but we do need more help, both in the kitchen and with transport. We ask helpers to assist one Friday morning a month, (though the Luncheon Circle takes place every Friday) and it would be lovely if more willing helpers could commit themselves to this worthwhile service. We are a happy bunch and enjoy what we do, so please come and join us, you will be amply rewarded by the appreciation of those we serve. For further information, please contact me.

REPORT FOR 2004
(Printed in the Church magazine OUTLOOK February 2005)

I have been prevailed upon to write for the magazine. Little changes in the Luncheon Circle, but I would like to take this opportunity to mention a few things.
Once again we have completed a successful and enjoyable year. During 2004 we have cooked and served some 1,800 meals! The average attendance on Fridays has been 40 diners, apart from the Christmas lunch when we catered for 70, as drivers and all helpers were included on this occasion.
I wish to give thanks to all who have helped in any way – preparing meals, serving them, clearing away, washing up, laying tables, and driving etc.
Particular thanks must go to David and Margareta for their active support during David’s ministry. They have helped on a weekly basis and, in fact, have only been absent when on holiday or when ‘Duty’ called. We will sorely miss them and we wish them a long, happy, and healthy retirement. May God be with them both.
My thanks also go - to Rene Wright for taking over the Drivers’ Rota so willingly and efficiently - to the Badminton Club who put up the tables in the coffee lounge after play on Thursday nights, not forgetting the men who return them to their place of storage after lunch. This is such a help to us and much appreciated – to Graham Ash who helps us in so many ways. A big ‘thank you’ to all of you!
Also I must mention the magnificent gift from James Tweedie, of a Frost Free Fridge Freezer which has been a real asset to us in storage of food each week and for which we are so grateful. Thank you, James, from the bottom of our hearts.
Finally, may I make an appeal for new helpers in any capacity whatever? None of the present staff is getting any younger, and if we are to carry on in the future, we need some New Blood! It requires a commitment of one Friday morning a month, and there are numerous jobs to be done. So how about YOU??
The kitchen is a happy place – we do have some fun – and it is a service we give to the public as well as church members. You will be amply rewarded by the appreciation of those we serve.
If you wish to know more about what is entailed, please contact me, and you will be sure of a warm welcome. Drivers also are required and Rene will be pleased to hear from anyone willing to help in this capacity.
Thanking you in anticipation???
