House Groups

The Madely Close / Park Road housegroup has met for several years and is currently meeting at the Madely Close venue. We meet approximately monthly. After a short prayer, we have a talk and discussion, often led by one of our group members.

For example, this month we discussed the problem of Aids in Africa and whether we can help. Last month, one of the Pilots leaders, came to speak to us, about the Pilots and the work they do with the young people within the church. It was interesting to hear about this first hand, and also to be able to ask questions and to discuss how the work with young people has changed.

The second part of the evening is social, with refreshments, and conversation. Everyone enjoys the smaller group session, for fellowship, with other church members.

The size of any housegroup is limited to the number of people, who can fit comfortably fit into a sitting room. If others are interested, then please contact the Church Secretary, so another housegroup can be formed.

AN ECUMENICAL HOUSE GROUP

This house group resulted from a continuation of a Lenten House Group, and has continued to meet monthly throughout the year. It includes people from our main local churches under the chairmanship of Antony Cox of St. Peter’s. We now meet at St Peter House, Murieston Road on the first Monday morning of each month at 10:15 for 10:30.

In recent months we have been studying the gospel of St Mark. We initially read the whole gospel through at one sitting and since then have been using studies from a book entitled "portraits of Jesus - Mark"

Previously we spent 6 months discussing trade and aid, especially to Africa.
The Group’s conclusions were that aid, for a variety of reasons, has often not achieved anticipated results. Perhaps a different approach is needed, based on a “one-to-one” activity with targeted aims. Adjustments should also be made to trade agreements, on a “one-to-one” basis.
We produced a report with recommendations which was available in the different Churches and on the web site. Any further details can be obtained from Betty Walley.
